How Aakriti was founded

In 2004, Aakriti (Educational cum Vocational Training center for mentally challenged) was founded by Mr. Anurag and Mrs. Mani Agrawal with two children, one Vibhor their own son and the other Yogesh, with the single vision of making rehabilitation and special training needs available locally. They accepted all special need children regardless of their age and disability, whether it is Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation, Down's syndrome, Learning Disability, ADHD, ADD, Autism, multiple disabilities or any other disability.

Mrs. Mani Agrawal also undertook formal education i.e. B.Ed (Mental Retardation) at the age of 53 to benefit the needed from enhanced knowledge on the subject. The inception of Aakriti in 2004 was due to the second son of the Agrawal couple, Vibhor, aged 27 years who was in a special school in Delhi. The daily commute was a big drain of finances and energy of the parents who had to accompany him every day. The boy was picking up slowly but the progress was not very significant. He had apparently passed the age. They continued the school in hope, until one day they realized that it was insufficient for him to live an un-assisted life. That day, they decided to open their own training center for him and for other children like him.

In 2007, Aakriti was registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 as Association for Ability Kare Rehabilitation Training of persons with disabilities.
